Before and After School Care
Latchkey provides Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) licensed childcare before and after school for K-5 students. Students are transported by bus between Latchkey sites and attendance centers. Latchkey opens at 6AM until school begins and after school until 6PM. Services are available at following four sites:
• Derby Hills Elementary, 2230 N. Woodlawn Blvd., (316) 788-8532, Derby (students who attend Derby Hills & El Paso)
• Stone Creek Elementary, 3012 N. Triple Creek Dr., (316) 440-5132, Derby (students who attend Stone Creek & Tanglewood)
• Swaney Elementary, 501 English St., Derby, (316) 788-8064 (students who attend Park Hill & Swaney)
• Wineteer Elementary, 8801 E. Ent Dr., Wichita, (316) 684-0097 (students who attend Cooper, Oaklawn & Wineteer)
Latchkey Enrollment for the 2023-2024 School Year Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis and subject to available openings at each individual Latchkey site. Enrollment for the 2024-2025 School Year will open in mid July.
School Year Latchkey Enrollment
The first two weeks of care are due at the time of enrollment along with a $10 registration fee per student. This initial payment must be made in person at a Latchkey office via credit or debit card, cash, check, or money order. In addition, any outstanding balances must be paid in order to complete enrollment. In addition, the required documents attached in the above enrollment link must be returned to your Latchkey office at the time of enrollment.

Weekly fees are prorated ONLY for days when Latchkey care is not available. Latchkey reserves the right to refuse service to families whose accounts are delinquent.
Extended Care
Extended care is available for students currently enrolled in Latchkey on days school is not in session due to inservice/staff work days, or parent teacher conferences. Extended care days for the 2023-2024 school year are as follow:
FULL DAYS (6AM-6PM)
- Friday, October 13: Derby Hills Elementary; $30 per student
- Thursday October 26 & Friday, October 27: Stone Creek Elementary; $30 per student per day
- Tuesday, January 2: Stone Creek Elementary; $30 per student
- Thursday, February 15 & Friday, February 16: Derby Hills Elementary; $30 per student per day
- Friday, March 8: Swaney Elementary; $30 per student
HALF DAY: Extended services will be offered at each individual Latchkey site from the time of early release until 6PM. Cost is $15 per student.

Summer Latchkey Information
2024 Summer Latchkey
Derby Public Schools Summer Latchkey program is for school age children and youth from any district who have completed kindergarten through fifth grades. We will provide 9 weeks of fun-filled, theme centered activities that will provide engaging, and meaningful experiences for kids of all ages. Sign up for specific weeks, or for the whole summer!
Enrollment will open on Monday, March 18 at 8AM.
PROGRAM INFORMATION: June 3-August 2, 2024, Monday-Friday 6AM-6PM (closed July 4-5 in observance of Independence Day). Summer Latchkey is at Swaney Elementary, 501 English.
FEES
- $120 weekly rate per student (week of July 1-3 will be prorated)
- $35 one time enrollment fee per student (includes t-shirt)
- District Staff Rates: $96 per week + $35 enrollment fee (per student)
ENROLLMENT: Enrollment is limited, and is on a first come, first served basis. To complete the enrollment process:
- Complete the online Google Form (link will be available Monday, March 18 at 8AM).
- Complete the Special Permissions (pdf linked below)
- Return payment and Special Permissions form within three business days of completing the online registration to any Latchkey office during program operating hours (online portion must be completed first). Please do not return forms or payment to school offices; Latchkey offices only, please.
PAYMENT: A $20 nonrefundable, non-transferable deposit is due at enrollment for each week of care you select. The balance for each week of care is due on Monday, one full week prior to care by 11:59 pm. A $10 late fee will be assessed after that time. Initial payments must be made in person via credit, debit, cash, check or money order. Once enrollment is complete, weekly balances can be paid via e-Funds in addition to all other methods of payment listed above.

Eagle/Cheetah Time
Eagle Time is offered at Cooper Elementary and Cheetah Time is offered at Oaklawn Elementary. Both are after school services that allow your student to receive intense instruction for both Reading and Math. There are some requirements for the program. For more information, please contact your school.
School Age Program (McConnell AFB)
The McConnell Air Force Base School Age Program is designed to support working parents of children ages 5 to 12. This program features a safe, age-appropriate focusing on building skills for life, which promotes social, physical, and cognitive development. The program offers both full-day camps during Spring & Summer breaks. Full-day camp during most school closures excluding federal holidays. We strive to reinforce family values and emphasize the uniqueness of each child by promoting positive attitudes and validating self-worth.
Boys and Girls Club
New for the 2023-2024 school year, Boys & Girls Club of South Central Kansas is opening programs at El Paso Elementary, Derby Middle School and Derby North Middle School. The fee is a one-time $150, that covers the entire school year. Morning clubs will begin at 7:00AM and run until the start of the school day. After school programs will end at 6:00PM. Middle School Before and After School Services
DRC
The Derby Recreation Commission (DRC), located at 801 E. Market near Derby Middle School, offers before and after school services for middle school students. In addition, the DRC also offers a bus service from the DRC to Derby North Middle School in the morning and back to the DRC in the afternoon. Every person that utilizes the DRC must have a membership or purchase a day pass. Certain age restrictions apply in activity areas. Scholarships are available.

Youth Center (McConnell AFB)
McConnell’s Youth Center is located in Base Housing and provides programs for youth ages 9-18. The Center has a basketball court, game room, computer lab, arts & crafts area, teen room and snack bar.
Youth programs at McConnell assist DoD military and civilian personnel in balancing the competing demands of family life and the accomplishment of the DoD mission. We host get-togethers, spelling bees, dances, lock-ins, essay contests and more to keep the youth of McConnell engaged in a positive community!
